Athens is a lovely historical City. It has various neighbourhoods and one of the most popular neighbourhood is the Plaka area which is where I booked my hotel.
Plaka area has little streets with lots of shops and restaurants and it is close to the Parthenon and the new Acropolis Museum
I stayed at the Hotel Omiros which is a 3 star hotel for an affordable price in the area. Plaka area is considered a down down location with lots of security as it is close to the popular syntagma square. it has lots of shops and restaurants for the average tourist. I was impressed with the customer service of the hotel and the way they accommodated my needs

Up close pictures of the Parthenon at the Acropolis. The Parthenon, an icon of Western civilization, is one of the most famous buildings in the world. The temple was built in the fifth century BC and overlooks the city of Athens from its majestic position on top of the sacred Acropolis Hill.
The Parthenon was built in honor of the goddess Athena Parthenos (virgin Athena), patroness of the city of Athens. Initially the temple was known as the Great Temple (Megas Naos), but later became known by the name of Parthenon. Currently the structure is under renovation

The top picture is the The Erechtheion. it is an is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis which was dedicated to both gods Athena and Poseidon. The main structure consists of four compartments, the largest being the east cella, with an Ionic portico on its east end. The south, side of the building shown above shows the famous Caryatid Porch, or "porch of the maidens," with six draped female figures (Caryatids) as supporting columns. One of the Caryatids was removed by Lord Elgin in order to decorate his Scottish mansion and was later sold to the British Museum (along with the pedimental and frieze sculpture plundered from the Parthenon).
Local legend had it that at night the remaining five Caryatids could be heard wailing for their lost sister. Nowadays the five original Caryatids are displayed in helium-filled glass cases in the Acropolis Museum and are replaced in situ by exact replicas.
The preserved theater Odeon of Herodes Atticus at the Aropolis. It was built in 161 AD by the Athenian magnate Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. It was used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000. It lasted intact until it was destroyed and turned into a ruin by the Heruli in 267 AD. In the last decade, there has actually been live performances at the amphitheater

Temple of Hephaistos at the the Ancient Agora. The Temple of Hephaistos, also known as the Theseion or Hephaisteion, was built in the fifth century BC. The temple was dedicated to the gods Hephaistos and Athena. The Hephaisteion is the best preserved temple in all of Greece thanks to its conversion into a church in the seventh century.
